Pokémon TAG TEAM TCG Touring Activation
Turning imagination into discovery
Role: Creative Concept · Experience Strategy · Customer Journey Design · Experience Design · Environmental Storytelling · Creative Direction · Visual Direction · AI Creative Direction · Copywriting
Created to support the launch of Pokémon TCG's new TAG TEAM expansion, this concept explored how the Pokémon world itself could become the gateway into the Trading Card Game.
Rather than asking children to begin with rules and strategy, the experience invited them to discover, explore and play first—using curiosity, physical interaction and shared adventure to naturally lead families towards the cards.
Because the most magical worlds don't feel invented. They feel discovered.

Integrated Campaign Concept • Experience Strategy • Customer Journey Design • Environmental Storytelling • Spatial Experience Design • Gameplay Integration Strategy • Activation Experience • Campaign Storyboards • AI Image Direction
01 · Every adventure starts with a question
Before the activation was ever announced, Pokémon quietly began appearing across the Arndale Centre.
Digital screens flickered with mysterious sightings while enormous footprints appeared across the shopping centre floor, leaving families with one simple question: "What made those?"
Rather than advertising the event, the campaign invited curiosity to do the work.
02 · Every discovery deserves a reason
A week later, the mystery was solved.
Local newspapers, social media and the Arndale Centre officially revealed Pokémon Base Camp was coming to Manchester. Suddenly, the footprints and strange sightings made sense. The campaign shifted from intrigue to anticipation, turning curiosity into excitement before a single visitor had arrived.
03 · The journey begins long before the game
By the time families reached Base Camp, they already felt part of the story.
Running towards the entrance wasn't simply arriving at an event. It was finally reaching the destination they'd been wondering about all week.
The adventure had already begun.
04 · Every Trainer needs a beginning
Every child receives their own Pokédex before entering Base Camp.
More than a keepsake, it quietly changes their role in the experience. They're no longer visitors.
They're explorers.
From this point onwards, every discovery belongs to them.
05 · Great worlds feel lived in
Base Camp wasn't designed to look like an event.
It was designed to feel like somewhere Pokémon researchers had genuinely been working long before the public arrived. Natural materials, field journals and explorer equipment transformed a temporary activation into a believable place, making the Pokémon world feel less invented and more discovered.
06 · Imagination becomes something you can touch
For years, children have imagined what it might feel like to stand inside the Pokémon world.
Stepping into the Discovery Truck transforms those questions into physical experiences. Pokémon move beyond screens and cards, becoming something visitors can see, hear and interact with for themselves.
07 · Children remember experiences, not explanations
The Discovery Truck wasn't built to teach. It was built to answer childhood questions.
What does Pikachu's electricity feel like? What might a Pokémon habitat smell like?
By rewarding curiosity instead of presenting information, the world became memorable long before the Trading Card Game was introduced.
08 · Discovery feels better when you've found it yourself
The Discovery Trail encouraged children to put their new Pokédex into practice, following playful clues that hinted where different Pokémon might be hiding throughout the shopping centre.
Rather than leading visitors from stop to stop, the experience rewarded curiosity, making every discovery feel genuinely earned.
09 · Every discovery deserves recognition
Each Pokémon found earned another stamp inside the Pokédex.
Simple interactions gradually became a personal record of the day's adventure, reinforcing a feeling that's always sat at the heart of Pokémon.
Not collecting for the sake of it. Collecting because every discovery tells a story.
10 · Friendship came before the cards
The experience concluded at the Trading Card Game tables, supporting the launch of Pokémon's new TAG TEAM expansion.
Guided by Base Camp Trainers, families explored the game together at their own pace, from simple card activities to their first TAG TEAM matches.
The cards didn't interrupt the adventure. They simply gave it another way to continue.
11 · The best adventures follow you home
Our final scene isn't about leaving an event. It's about leaving with the feeling that the Pokémon world still exists alongside our own.
A mother. A daughter. And, in the imagination of one little girl...one extra hand to hold.
Because the most magical worlds don't end when you walk away.
They quietly become part of the world you return to.
